local food awards

The shop has been ticking over very nicely this last week, the rhubarb and Yorkshire beetroot have been doing very well, lots of different recipes for you to choose from, you would be surprised what you can do with beetroot (the beetroot and chocolate cake made by Dee is out of this world) so keep coming.

On a different note, we had a nice surprise this week - both the Green Valley Grocer and the HandMade Bakery have been short listed for a local food award and are invited to go to the mayor's awards ceremony, so keep posted and we will let you know how we get on.

Here's a link to the short-list of nominees, Slaithwaite looks like it will be well-represented! http://www.kirklees.gov.uk/events/localfood/LocalFoodFinalists.pdf

Today at the shop 25/2/10

Our organic veg arrived today from Fennella's Garden, we also have some things arriving from Goosemoore Organics.

There's more delicious cakes from Dee's Pantry includung rhubarb and custard muffins, double chocolate muffins and, of course, blueberry muffins.

The shop is doing very well so keep coming in and have a good look around.

Today at the shop 18/2/10

We had another good day today even though it was a horrible day, all the organic veg arrived including the gorgeous beetroot and lovely looking spinach and red kale.

The new stands for inside the shop came this afternoon and look pretty good even if I say so myself. We had delivery of more country market cakes and 100% all butter shortcake.

A shot of one of the new display stands, made by Simon Fisher.

Today 11/2/10

More goodies arrived at the shop today, in country market cakes such as carrot cake, fruit, butter shortbread with different fillings, and parkin.

We also had a taster of different chutneys, chose four very different flavours - so keep an eye out for them.

More Yorkshire Blue cheese will be in Friday. We now have lovely looking (and tasting) Blood Oranges. So come and have a look at what we've got.

Soups

Right, here we go first time blogging!

The soups have been sinned up and there is 1 that's free - that is the Tomato and Red Lentil (that means 'none' to "Slimming World" people, i.e. you can eat as much as you like on the diet) The Broccolli and Cauliflower is 9 sins (so be careful), Spicy Parsnip is 7 sins; Potato, Leek and Cheddar is 3 sins; there are 2 more varieties but they are not available in the shop this week, so we'll have to wait and see.

We had a very busy day today, keep it up shoppers.
