What are you planning to grow ???
Work has started on building a local food network in the Colne Valley ! Chats are being had and feelers are being put out - we at The Green Valley Grocer want all our customers to benefit from eating locally grown food - and want to help our communities to become increasingly resilient and self-sufficient.
We want to stock local produce and we want to help people grow their own!
If you have ideas about how our network can develop, or just want to share some information, swap seeds, plan your growing with a friend, join the Local Food Forum and spread the word.

Local growing
Hi,
I sold my excess to the shop last year and that was great.
I am happy to grow more excess this year but maybe we need to work together so we dont have gluts.
Pricing policy worked fine last year to get us started but we should look too to fine tuning this. Does local / organic raise a premium - if so I am sure we can get even more grown localy.
Finaly on organic - should we look to getting registered. If so who with.

hi duncan
so far the shop has taken the view that organic is 'premium' and can command a slightly higher price- needs to be certified as such though. But we have tried to price the local produce in line with non-local - ie carrots from you would be the same as carrots from Manc market. This seems to fit better with our aim of enabling all local people to buy local food regardless of their income - a more essential aim really than even selling organic.
You are quite right about gluts - what are you planning to grow ?
